Clearly, the best player on the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team is senior linebacker, Dakota Allen. Allen will showcase his skills and talents at the Advocare Texas Kickoff Classic at NRG stadium in Houston, TX as they face the Ole Miss Rebels. Coincidently, he has a connection to both Texas and Mississippi.

Allen was featured on Netflix’s Last Chance U, a series that features a junior college football team in Scooba, MS. Allen, an Humble, TX product was dismissed from the Red Raiders in the summer of 2016 as a result of being charged with second degree burglary along with two other, then Texas Tech teammates. Charges were later dismissed.

In the fall of 2016, he went on to star as linebacker for the East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) Lions 2016 team. While there, Allen led the team in tackles. Allen also came within one game of winning a National Championship while at EMCC.

After his tenure at EMCC, Texas Tech welcomed him back for the 2017 season. He was voted captain of the team in 2017 and still remains one of the team’s captain for his senior season.

Allen is expected to make a huge impact for the defense. His expectations will be displayed on today. He’s already considered one of the top linebackers in the Big 12.

Allen is a perfect example of an individual who takes advantage of being provided a second chance. He’s grown from his mistakes off the field and should continue to take care of business on it.

The future is bright for this kid.
